03-May-2007,
ISLAMABAD: Muslim Aid, one of the leading charities
of United Kingdom, and the READ Foundation, an Islamabad
based educational NGO, reached an agreement on 3rd of
May, 2007 for the Rebuilding of 10 READ Foundation schools
in the EQ affected regions of Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Poonch.
A
total of £288,000/- at the start, this partnership
will prolong over a period of 24 months, providing a basis
for rebuilding 10 Primary schools from tented settings
to prefabricated settings, classrooms furniture (class
room aid) providing opportunities to train teachers and
more than 2000 children will benefit.
The
8/10 earthquake badly damaged basic social services infrastructure
including education. The impact on education was devastating:
as 6,083 schools were destroyed.
This
is to help traumatized children come back to school and
receive the education and care they need on continuing
basis, by providing quality education through properly
trained teachers and well equipped classes.
“Muslim
Aid is working from last 10 years in the Relief and Development
sector through local partner”, said the Muslim Aid Manager
of the Overseas Program Department Hamid Azad while signing
the agreement.
“After

development of Education reforms in the districts of Muzaffarabad,
Bagh and Pooch and this is their first Mega Project in
Pakistan’s EQ affected areas” he said.
Signing
the agreement, Chairman READ Foundation Mahmood Ahmed
said, “Education is necessary to bring change but without
proper necessasities and resources for children change
takes place very slowly, but these losses are irreparable”
He
said, “READ has the strongest presence in AJK areas, Rebuilding
all of the destroyed school and equipping them with all
necessasities is a gigantic project and will take a few
years and tons of effort to accomplish, but Read and Muslim
Aid have laid the foundation stone for this project and
would like to encourage other donors to contribute towards
this cause whole heartedly”.
He
also commented on Teachers Training and said,” Trained
and Professional teacher would make it possible to provide
quality education to children, hence will help them building
their vision and character”. |
