Islamabad,
04-Dec-2007: The Board of Directors, Chairman,
CEO, managers and senior officers of READ Foundation,
Islamabad, visited four of its regions including Bhimber,
Kotli from 23-26 November while Bagh and Muzaffarabad
from 30 November to 03 December 2007 under its Vision
2020 programme.
During the
visit to the Center for Training & Coordination
(CTCs), colleges and schools being run under the READ
Foundation, plans were discussed to strengthen and accelerate
the activities of the organization for Vision 2020.
Extensive discussions and presentations were made by
Education & Training Officers (ETOs), College and
school principals and the officials of the READ Foundation
beside valuable input by the local communities.
The participants
floated fruitful recommendations with regard to Vision
2020 with major focus on quality education, reaching
out to more remote locations, expansion of schools in
non-represented areas, facilitating poor and down-trodden
children of the remote areas, establishment of degree
level colleges and a university, strengthening the system
and making it compatible to meet the emerging challenges.
The members
of local community, elites of the respective areas,
tragedy stricken parents, especially enrolled children
lauded the efforts of READ Foundation for its matchless
rehabilitation and reconstruction work. The response
of both the community and children was very encouraging.
A visible hope and confidence was pervading from their
faces which is a healthy sign towards the Vision 2020.
The facilities
that READ provided to these children in terms of new
buildings, furniture, science labs etc. has invigorated
a new hope and left deep marks on the hearts of tiny
tats who seem quite enthusiastic and their unique gestures
were indicating a visible shift in their outlook and
attitudes towards life. Many still in tented class rooms
and sitting on stones while braving the chilly Himalayan
winds were learning their lessons with the same zeal
and zest.
The views,
hopes and odds that surfaced during the interaction
with the children and communities has added to the responsibilities
of READ Foundation and set new but difficult challenges
for it.
A
positive idea can brining happiness to many therefore
we urge our valued supporters and those serious for
the cause of education and lot of earthquake communities,
especially children, may give their comments and views
with regard to vision 2020.
